Saturday 7 March 2026, National Yacht Club
While the French rugby team were being convincingly beaten by Scotland on a Saturday afternoon, 17 members gathered in the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire for the Annual General Meeting.
Outgoing Commodore John Murphy opened the meeting with a review of the activities and events of 2025 ending with the Three Bridges Rally in September.
The membership report showed that there are now more than 250 members, the highest ever membership, and the Treasurer’s report showed that the finances of the Association are under control and in good shape.
Incoming Commodore Michael Kelly reported that following a meeting with Irish Sailing, we have come to an agreement regarding outstanding subscriptions and Irish Sailing has undertaken to work on the issues of concern to our Association.
The events planned for 2026, which are available to view on our website (Events 2026) were discussed, including the proposed summer cruise to West Cork. The fleet will gather in Crosshaven with a view to sailing further west from June 15th and hopefully enjoying the cruising grounds of Roaringwater Bay and Bantry Bay.
The success of the Day in the Bay in 2025 has led to plans to run the event twice in 2026 (April and May), and change the name of the event to Skill Share Day.
Feedback from the attendants expressed concern about the date of the Greystones Rally April 11th. The date will clash with launch day at some of the clubs, and even some boats in the water might not yet be ready for sailing. After reviewing possible alternative dates, none of which were suitable, it has been decided to stay with April 11th. The point expressed will be considered when planning the first event in future years.
The composition of the CAI committee was confirmed, with Michael Kelly taking over as Commodore. John Murphy moves to Vice Commodore and takes responsibility for organising the Three Bridges Rally. Other committee changes include the appointment of Annette Hegarty as membership secretary.
After the meeting, other members joined the group for a dinner in the dining room of the National Yacht Club, and we were honoured to be joined by the club’s Commodore Peter Sherry and his wife.
After the dinner, John Murphy presented a flag to each of the participants in the Summer Cruise 2025, and the Fitzpatrick Salver was presented to Simon Parker for his outstanding contribution and tireless work for the Association. All present agreed that Simon was a worthy winner.
