Skill Share Day 2026-04-26

Sunday 26 April in Dun Laoghaire

This is an interactive, hands-on skills development afternoon by and for CAI members. The objective is to build confidence and polish your techniques.

  • 10:00 meet in Dun Laoghaire (RIYC)
  • 16:00 come ashore for review

An experienced mentor on each boat will guide the session and share practical insights. You develop your skills on your own boat during a structured afternoon on the water in and near the harbour.

We expect to address these skills, but other suggestions are welcome:

  • Power handling / “parking” in the marina
  • Anchoring
  • Picking up a mooring buoy
  • Taking an alongside tow from a rib
  • Rafting up
  • Recovering a man overboard
  • Sail handling / reefing
  • Safely using tender + outboard
  • Confident VHF radio comms.

If you think you might participate, either as an improver or as a mentor, with or without a boat, please submit a provisional booking form below. You might have to pay for food but there is no administration fee.

  • Tell us what skills you want to work on in the Notes field.
  • If you want to offer your services as a mentor then tell us about it in the Notes field.
  • Our usual terms about insurance and responsibility apply, but for this event all participants will also be expected to accept a more comprehensive disclaimer before going afloat.
