Conor OBrien [sic] circumnavigated the earth between 1923 and 1925 in Saoirse, a sailing boat built in Baltimore to his own design. He was the first to sail around the world from West to East in a small private craft south of the three great capes.
The yacht has been rebuilt in the Ilen boatyard, and she will visit Dun Laoghaire in June next year on the anniversary of the epic voyage.
Vincent Murphy will tell us about the man, the boat and the voyage on Wednesday 23 November at 19:30. This is one of our regular club night talks on Zoom; for connection details see the Discussion Forums page.
