Presentation of the Fitzpatrick Salver 2020
Clifford and Darina Brown.
From the Commodore
At the Cruising Association of Ireland AGM 2021, Commodore Vincent Lundy presented Darina and Clifford Brown the Fitzpatrick Salver for 2020.
The Fitzpatrick Salver carries a long list of reputable members of the
CAI. Names like Tom McSweeney better known for his Seascape programs and
Pat and Olivia Murphy for circumnavigating the globe. More recent names
include the likes of Fr. Derek Harris, John Leahy, Mike Medcalf, Gail
MacAllister and Charlie Kavanagh.
The committee were pleased to choose two individuals Darina and Clifford
Brown to receive the Fitzpatrick Slaver for 2020 for their support of
the CAI and without whom 2020 could well have been a sail-less year for
Clifford and Darina have been members of the CAI for over ten years and Clifford is a long standing committee member and was CAI Commodore in the years 2015, 2016 and 2017. Darina and Clifford have enjoyed many of the CAI summer cruises and have been the lead boat on a number of them.
But 2020 was a completely new experience for all of us. Any sailing
opportunities looked like being totally excluded to CAI members.
Darina was immersed in the Covid dilemma with her involvement with
NPHET, a responsibility none of us would relish. Darina’s and Clifford’s constant feedback and advice on the progression of the Covid virus to the CAI enabled the Association to partake in several sailing events while maintaining and in most cases exceeding Government safety
recommendations at the time. Notably our summer cruise to Malahide, Carlingford and Bangor could not have proceeded without their input.
The CAI committee and members join together in presenting Clifford and Darina with the Fitzpatrick Salver for 2020, in acknowledgement of their years of input into the CAI and the part Darina and Clifford played and are still playing in overlooking the health and safety of our communities and especially the members of the CAI.
Congratulations Clifford and Darina
