Presented by Peter Hogan, Dublin Port Operations
Dublin Port is the busiest in Ireland, handling the majority of the vessels and cargo transiting into and out of the country. The Port Operations team are responsible for managing the movement of all vessels within the port area – including leisure vessels.
This talk will complement the detailed guidance available online, explaining the proper route to follow for leisure vessels entering or exiting the port, how and where to cross the channel, how to communicate with Dublin VTS (the radio callsign of the team which manages the port area 24/7), and more.
Peter will also share insights into how the Port Operations team use equipment such as AIS and radar to safely manage vessels within the highly constrained port area and will give listeners a new perspective on interacting with leisure vessels from a large commercial vessel with limited visibility and manoeuvrability.
The presentation has been given in person at several yacht clubs. This is your chance to see it online if you missed it, or to keep up to date with the latest guidance from the experts. It is particularly relevant for CAI members – many of whom plan to join the annual Three Bridges Rally, transiting through the port area and into the Liffey.
