ICC Sailing Directions: from research to reader
Presented by Norman Kean
Needing little introduction, Norman has been Editor of the Irish Cruising Club Sailing Directions for 19 years. He has sailed round Ireland six times, also all over the west of Scotland, the Faroe Islands, Cornwall, most of the north and west coasts of France and northern Spain, the east coast of the USA and across the Atlantic. In this talk he will describe how he does the job, some of the many avenues it has led him down, the opportunities it has opened up – and a couple of the times he’s enjoyed taking customers by surprise. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation in 2015, he’s now a member of an RIN working group tasked with recommending some standards for vector charts like Navionics and CMap, and he’ll describe how that’s being done and what they hope to achieve, with the impending loss of paper charts having added a new dimension to their work.
One of the benefits of CAI membership is a generous discount on ICC publications. Read more…
