Dungarvan to Brittany and back, via the Isles of Scilly

Gareth has been sailing since 2012, with Mediterranean charters plus family cruising in Ireland – progressing from the nimble Laser 16 to the Beneteau 211 and Beneteau 260, and finally with his current twin keel Hunter Legend 36 called Sipadan.
Now an experienced sailor and skipper, in 2023 Gareth embarked on an adventure cruise from Dungarvan to Brittany, via the Isles of Scilly, exploring the coast of Brittany from Brest to Golf de Morbihan, taking in the islands of Ile de Sein, Iles des Glenans, Ile de Groix, Belle Ile and Ile d’Houat before returning, again via the Isles of Scilly.
In 2024 he again cruised to France, this time to the Vendee region, sailing non-stop from Dungarvan to Ile d’Yeu (420nm) in exactly 3 days, before ultimately ending up in La Rochelle, where he explored the coast from there to La Baule, taking in Les Sables d’Olonne, Ile d’Yeu and Ile de Noirmoutier, before returning via Ouessant and the Isles of Scilly to Dungarvan.
This talk will focus on his 2023 trip to Brittany, focusing particularly on how he approached planning his first international offshore passage.
