Route map for a passage from Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia

Club Night Talk – Atlantic Rally for Cruises (The ARC)

Wednesday 9 April 19:30, Zoom

 A talk by John Leahy

The ARC is a transatlantic passage from Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia in the Caribbean, over 2,800 nautical miles, following the trade winds. In 2024 more than 800 people took part, on 234 boats from 35 to 105 feet in length.

Whether it’s for the safety guidance (the organisers have minimum requirements for safety and communications equipment), the support of a wider fleet while crossing an ocean, or simply the camaraderie of being part of such a flagship event – there are many reasons to join in!

Many CAI members have taken part in this bucket list event, both on their own boats and via charter. John Leahy – our in-house CAI weather guru – has done it twice! Join this talk to hear at first hand his stories and advice.

If you’re intrigued by the stories or thinking of doing it yourself one day, it’s not to be missed! Perhaps a group of CAI members interested in organising an entry might even emerge…
