By Andrew Bedwell
Andrew is determined to break the world record for the smallest boat to cross the Atlantic solo. His purpose designed and built boat, “Big C” measures just over 1 metre in length (that’s not a typo!). After a crane incident caused damage which halted his 2023 attempt on the record, he’s back again.
In May 2026 he will be heading for Canada then setting out to sail nearly 2,000 miles back to the UK, crossing the Atlantic from West to East.
Andrew’s preparations for his record attempt are going very well, and many of his sea trials have been undertaken out of Whitehaven just across the Irish Sea.
Crossing the Atlantic in such a small boat will take approximately 3 months, requiring extreme levels of resourcefulness including making drinking water by hand-cranking a desalination unit.
Andrew will join us to share his story next Wednesday.
