For our last event for the current season, we will gather in the Dining Room of Howth Yacht Club on 24 October for our version of the Cruising Oscars for 2026.
Previous years have seen us present a range of awards at different events over the course of the year, including the Fitzpatrick Salver and the Photography Competition winner. Other member-sponsored individual achievement awards have been presented at different times. One of our development projects in 2026 is to consolidate the entire set of awards into one presentation event, with the objective of giving a stronger profile to the achievements of members both on and off the water.
For the current season, we have adopted the traditional approach where the Committee has considered likely candidates, based on their own information sources and suggestions or comments made informally by other members in recognition of specific achievements. However, given the limitations of our own intelligence gathering, we plan to put a more structured approach in place for the 2027 season. A panel of three members will invite and assess nominations for the various awards. Members will have a lot more scope to have their say. More about that later.
At this event, we have decided to present awards for:
- Seamanship
- Leadership
- Knowledge Sharing, and
- Stand-Out Cruises
We will meet in the bar in Howth Yacht Club at 18.00 with dinner served at 19.00. After the presentation of awards, we will have an opportunity for the usual ‘craic agus ceol’, good conversation and tall stories!
